Young returned to Los Angeles where she landed roles such as Cathy Metsker, Mel Gibson Madeleine Stowe & Greg Kinnear's We Were Soldiers; and Rachel for JJ Abrams Mission Impossible: 3 starring Tom Cruise & Keri russe. There, Young has made numerous independent films, including The Freebie (starring DaxShepard) and A Country Remedy which stars Joshua Leonard. The latter was co-produced by her with the producers in North Carolina. Young began a varied and lengthy career in the field of television after moving to LA. Young is currently appearing in her award winning role as first lady Mellie Grant in ABC popular series Scandal and also in the coming Zoe Cassavetes film Day out of Days. Young is also creating an album of contemporary adult songs that features covers of Fleetwood Mac, Tom Waits, and Ryan Adams. Young's first album Far Away So Close was released on iTunes May 15th of this year. Megan Griffiths directed her in the crime film The Night Stalker about serial killer Richard Ramirez. In 2016, she played with Jim Rash and David Koechner as a supporting character in the film that was made by an independent filmmaker Bernard and Huey. In 2018, she co-starred with Jim Rash in Disney s live action adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time along with Oprah Winfrey Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling.
